About
Treasures of River or in short TOR is the genus which our Ikan kelah belongs. TOR is made of a few humble anglers that wish to inspire the passion to explore Malaysia’s greenery as well as spread conservation efforts. The idea was born to inspire awareness among anglers about the fragility’s of Malaysia’s current aqua ecosystem’s health. The key method is to push sustainability both for anglers and locals that works associates with water.
The push-over for me to post TOR’s catch reports are that there are more people realizing the need for conservation. Some of the reasons for the rising crowd are due to the hard work KAGUM had put in, the increasing popularity of lure fishing, global warming or even better education spread. But one certain fact that is changing people’s perspective is exposure. Internet, local broad castings, the introduction of Astro(Malaysia’s satellite coverage) and radio have a major influence on this part.
Conservations if most effective has to be a part of each individuals concept. In TOR, we hope to transmit our enthusiasm not only to nature lovers and anglers but also to those that have direct economy link and hopefully corporation too. Currently made of few like minded fishos, TOR’s aim will to spread awareness dominantly to fishing Guides, chartered operators and fishing enthusiast.
Angling industry in Malaysia is generally receiving thin attentions from authorities/decision makers in comparison with to countries of the same net-worth. Most freshwater fishing tourism operators are made of individuals that earns on the lower end of income scale. Most of them are also not enjoying the exposure of in terms of knowledge and availability compare to those that live in the cities. Thus most are running their service based business on the most basic manner.
By providing guides with better chances of income, we hope that guides in turn would preserve the fish stock and environment better. Economy of involved areas will also gain from indirect service providers such as accommodations, food & beverage, crafts and transportations. In comparison with Agro-base activity or timber based activity, eco- tourism can yield infinite gains compare to above provided sustainability is practice. Collectively, our nation will enjoy better external receptions at the same time lower poverty rate.

Very nice blog – different. Like the simplicity of it. To the point.
Yep…can you include the conservation efforts like the kelah breeding center in Raub and the kelah sactuaries in Tmn Negara n the tagals of east malaysia?
Sure, i would like to experience it personally in near future and work on it. KAGUM does cover large part of that activities, u will find more updates in http://www.Kagum.org in near future as Ming will be handling it.
Great suggestion Kevin, indeed we need more Kelah Sanctuary in Peninsular Malaysia. Whereas, Tagal will be something very new to us here in West Malaysia. KAGUM is looking into adopting our own river and from there on we would like to spread the awareness and conservation thoughts. A few places has been noted down, one of it will be Taman Negara and another would be one of our pristine rivers in Selangor. Lets hope, things will progress further in introducing Tagal in one of those rivers. We need lots of support from local villagers and everyone around us.
Good to have, like-minded people like you all there. Keep up the enthusiasm and spread the conservation awareness..
cheers guys
